Manages all aspects of the prior authorization and pre-certification process for interventional pain management procedures, diagnostic studies, and medications. Serves as the primary liaison between the practice, insurance carriers, and patients to ensure timely approvals and minimize claim denials. This role is critical to revenue cycle performance and patient access to care.

Essential Duties

Prior Authorization (55%)
  • Obtain prior authorizations for all interventional procedures (epidural injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation trials and implants, joint injections)
  • Submit authorization requests to insurance carriers via phone, fax, and electronic portals
  • Compile and submit clinical documentation, medical records, and letters of medical necessity
  • Track authorization status and follow up on pending requests
  • Manage peer-to-peer review scheduling between physicians and insurance medical directors
  • Process medication prior authorizations for controlled substances and specialty medications
Insurance Verification (25%)

Position Summary

Provides advanced practice clinical services in an interventional pain management setting, working in close collaboration with the supervising physician. Conducts patient evaluations, manages chronic pain conditions, orders and interprets diagnostic studies, prescribes medications including controlled substances in accordance with the collaborative practice agreement, and assists with interventional procedures. Patient Evaluation & Management (45%)
  • Conduct comprehensive new patient evaluations and follow-up visits
  • Obtain and document complete medical histories and physical examinations
  • Formulate and implement individualized pain management treatment plans
  • Order and interpret laboratory studies, imaging, and diagnostic tests
  • Manage chronic pain conditions including musculoskeletal, neuropathic, and spinal disorders
