Knee Pain
Knee pain is one of the most prevalent musculoskeletal complaints we see in our practice, affecting patients across all age groups and activity levels. The knee is a complex weight-bearing joint subject to significant mechanical stress, and pain can originate from the articular cartilage, menisci, ligaments, tendons, bursae, or the bones themselves. Osteoarthritis of the knee — the progressive wear and degeneration of the joint’s cartilage — is the most common cause of chronic knee pain in adults over fifty and frequently leads to significant functional limitation. At Coastal Spine & Pain, we offer several interventional approaches to knee pain management. Intra-articular corticosteroid injections can provide relatively rapid anti-inflammatory relief for acute flares. Hyaluronic acid viscosupplementation injections work by supplementing the joint’s natural lubricating fluid, potentially reducing pain and improving mobility over a series of treatments. For patients with chronic knee pain from osteoarthritis who have not obtained adequate relief from these approaches, genicular nerve radiofrequency ablation is an advanced technique that targets the sensory nerves supplying the knee joint, providing longer-lasting pain reduction — often six months to a year or more — without altering the joint structure itself. Dr. Webb will work with you to determine which approach, or combination of approaches, is best suited to your specific condition, severity, and treatment goals.
